Laura Canales was known as LA REINA DE LA MUSICA TEJANA or Onda Tejana Best Female Vocalist of the Year & Female Entertainer of the Year from 1976-1988 from several different presenters such as the Mike Chavez Awards, KFLZ Music Awards, KIWW Music Awards, Tejano Music Awards, Houston Tejano Awards and West Texas Hispanic Music Awards.
*Laura was inducted into Tejano Roots Hall of Fame in 2000 as the first female artist.
*Received her degree from TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY for Clinical Psycology in 1997 and was pursuing her Masters degree.
*Given the "YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS" by Gov. Mark White in 1983 which was the highest honor the Governor of any state can give to an entertainer. Mayor Henry Cisneros named her "ALCALDE de San Antonio" and also named Laura as the "First Lady of Song of South Texas" in July 1983
July 24, 1983 was proclaimed "Laura Canales Day by the Bexar County Commissioner's Court
