This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Laura Canales who was born in Kingsville, Texas on August 19, 1954 and passed away on April 16, 2005 at the age of 50.  We remember your Words "No Guts, No Glory" and see how brave you were to enter an all men arena in the Tejano industry and become "LA REINA". We also remember your favorite bible scripture verse "Greater is HE who is in me than he that is in the World" I John 4:4


IN LAURA'S honor the Family has set up THE LAURA CANALES FOUNDATION . The foundation is a non-profit organization,which will  be used to award scholarships to students wanting to further their education, and will also help many other individuals and causes. The foundations President is Joe Alaniz and Vice-president is Joel Canales. Further details and information will follow on upcoming events for the LAURA CANALES FOUNDATION.

In Memory of Laura Canales
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Laura Canales, who died April 16, 2005, at the age of 50;
Laura Canales was known as LA REINA DE LA MUSICA TEJANA or Onda Tejana  

Best Female Vocalist of the Year  & Female Entertainer of the Year from 1976-1988 from several different presenters such as the Mike Chavez Awards, KFLZ Music Awards, KIWW Music Awards, Tejano Music Awards, Houston Tejano Awards and West Texas Hispanic Music Awards.

*Laura was inducted into Tejano Roots Hall of Fame in 2000 as the first female artist.

*Received her degree from TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY for Clinical Psycology in 1997 and was pursuing her Masters degree.

*Given the "YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS" by Gov. Mark White in 1983 which was the highest honor the Governor of any state can give to an entertainer.
 
Mayor Henry Cisneros named her "ALCALDE de San Antonio" and also named Laura as the  "First Lady of Song of South Texas" in July 1983

July 24, 1983 was proclaimed "Laura Canales Day by the Bexar County Commissioner's Court

*Laura also loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and considered her Gospel recording "EN CRISTO" with Freddie Martinez and the LEGENDS as  one of her many accomplishments.
    

WORLD AIDS DAY  

Laura performed for World Aids Day @ La Virgen de San Juan Bascila. Laura was the first Tejano Female artist to become a Spokesperson for AIDS in the Rio Grande Valley.
